Admission Tests

MCET

The Missouri College English Test (MCET) is an Mizzou specific paper-and-pencil exam. The test lasts 40 minutes and consists of 90 questions. A raw score of 55 is required to pass the test.

Eligibility: Pre-journalism or journalism students who have received a “C+” or lower in English 1000 are required to pass this test to be considered for admission to the School of Journalism. Examinees may retake this exam one time. Consult with your advisor if you do not pass the MCET after the second attempt.

On-Campus ACT

The on-campus ACT, formerly known as the Residual ACT is for students who are unable to test on an ACT national testing date or desire to retest at Mizzou. Students seeking specific college requirements may also take this exam. The results are valid only for the Columbia campus of the University of Missouri.

Eligibility: Only students enrolled or seeking admission at the University of Missouri-Columbia campus are eligible to take this exam. It is not a practice test.

Placement Tests

Praxis

The Praxis series of exams are required for teacher certification in specific jurisdictions. Contact your state department of education for your requirements.

Other Tests

Proctored Exams

Testing Services provides proctoring services for any student who wishes to have an exam proctored. Check with your faculty advisor or the requesting agency before you schedule a proctored exam as the fee is nonrefundable. It is your responsibility to arrange for the delivery of test materials to Testing Services in person or via mail.

Eligibility: Any student who wishes to have an exam proctored. Ensure you bring a valid form of identification and consult with your test sponsor to determine what form of ID is required or permitted from your exam.

TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings. The TOEFL Internet-based Test (TOEFL-iBT) tests all four language skills that are important for effective communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Eligibility: Non-native English speaking students seeking to demonstrate that they have the English skills needed for success may take the TOEFL.

Accommodated Testing

If you need accommodations for any of the tests that we offer, call us for more information. We will be happy to help you!

Appropriate documentation must be provided to Testing Services before any accommodated exam is scheduled. Certain exams will require specific documentation or that the documentation be sent to the exam sponsor, such as the Praxis and TOEFL exams. Certain accommodations may take extra time to implement. Test candidates will need to arrange with their test sponsor for accommodations for any exam not provided by the University of Missouri.
