Policies and guidelines

  • Please notify your coordinator of any changes to your schedule.
  • You are expected to attend class regularly. If you are unable to attend class, please notify your coordinator immediately so that your interpreter or captionist can also be notified; most require advance notice of 24 hours for cancellation.
  • If you have not arrived within 15 minutes after a class or event has begun, the interpreter or captionist will leave.
  • Captionists are not required to begin captioning until you arrive at the class or event. Notes you receive from the captionist will not cover the time you missed.
  • If you need to request an interpreter or captionist for academic activities outside your regularly scheduled classes, such as meetings and study sessions, contact your coordinator right away. If the activity is frequent or ongoing, such as field work or a practicum, discuss the anticipated time commitment with your coordinator before the start of the semester.
  • If you directly contact the interpreter agency or captionist regarding scheduling, please include your coordinator in your communication; e-mail is preferred.
  • The Disability Center does not schedule specific interpreters based on preferences or requests.
  • If you have concerns or problems with your interpreter or captionist, notify your coordinator.

  • Use captioned media in class.
  • Provide your syllabus to the Disability Center as well as to the interpreter or captionist.
  • Provide adequate space for interpreters and captionists to work in your class.
