Meek Scholarship

Started in 2013, this fund provides a scholarship to incoming freshmen who have estabilished an accommodation plan with the Disability Center at University of Missouri.

The Meek Scholarship award will vary annually but will range from $500 to $5,000. You will be notified prior to the start of fall semester if you have been awarded the Meek Scholarship.

To qualify for this scholarship, you must:

  • Apply and be accepted to the University of Missouri the first semester following high school graduation
  • Have an appointment schedule with the Disability Center by July 21, 2017 or have established accommodations with the office already
  • Be enrolled as a full time student at the University of Missouri during the fall semester; a schedule of courses must be provided
  • Have a high school cumulative grade point average of 2.75% or higher; official high school transcript must be provided
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Submit your Meek Scholarship Application and two letters of recommendation by July 21, 2017 by 5pm

Frank Hodges Jr. Physical Disability Scholarship Fund

Established in 2001, this fund provides scholarships to students with physical disabilities, including mobility, vision, hearing and health-related disabilities. The scholarships are made possible by gift from the estate of Jessie Hodges Benton in honor of her brother, Frank Hodges Jr. Hodges, who was deaf, graduated from the University of Missouri in 1923 with a degree in engineering.

The Disability Center provides recommendations for awards to the MU Student Financial Aid Office, which administers the fund.

Applications are accepted from current students in spring for the following academic year.

Frank Hodges Jr. Physical Disability Scholarship Fund for Incoming Students

Established in 2015, this fund provides a scholarship to incoming students (transfer, freshmen, etc) who register with Disability Center at University of Missouri.

This fund has been made possible through a gift from the estate of Jessie Hodges Benton, in honor of her brother, Frank Hodges, Jr.  Frank, who was totally deaf, graduated from the University of Missouri in 1923 with a degree in engineering. The fund has been established to provide scholarships to students with physical disabilities (mobility, vision, hearing, health related).

  • Have an appointment schedule with the Disability Center by July 21, 2017 or have established accommodations with the office already
  • Be enrolled as a full time student at the University of Missouri during the fall semester; a schedule of courses must be submitted with application
  • Have a high school cumulative grade point average of 2.75% or higher; official high school or college transcript must be provided
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Submit your application along with one letter of recommendation no later than July 21, 2017 by 5pm.

Missouri Student Unions/US Bank Students with Disabilities Scholarship

The Missouri Student Unions/US Bank Scholarship Fund was established in 2011 with the opening of a US Bank branch in the MU Student Center.

Intended to recognize outstanding MU students from distinct backgrounds, these scholarships are awarded at the end of the spring semester. A recognition banquet held at the beginning of the fall semester recognizes annual winners.

How to apply:

  • Complete the scholarship application. Application deadline for Spring 2017 was April 3, 2017
  • Submit a letter of application to the scholarship selection committee:
    • Discuss your accomplishments and involvement at MU. Include information regarding academic achievements, employment, and volunteer work and student organizations.
    • Discuss your involvement with the Disability Center.
    • Explain how the scholarship would benefit you in your educational pursuits.
    • Describe how you model leadership characteristics to other MU students with disabilities.
    • Provide optional supplemental information, such as:
      • A list of honors or awards
      • Letters of recommendation
