Dear colleagues and friends of the Disability Center,
The University of Missouri has long been committed to ensuring equal opportunity for, and inclusion of, students with disabilities; the Disability Center gives tangible evidence of that commitment. And yet, even with this commitment, there is still much to do. Collaborative programs such as Celebrate Ability Week are designed to raise awareness and engage our campus community. Scholarships create opportunities for students with disabilities. And while the mission of the Disability Center is, at minimum, to facilitate access for students with disabilities, it also includes a responsibility to help build an inclusive and equitable teaching and learning environment, and this requires sustained and persistent effort.
Achieving all of this depends on the support of many, and the resources to make it happen. I encourage you to be a part of that support by giving to one of the following funds. Thank you.
Director, Disability Center
Accommodated Testing Center Fund
An Accommodated Testing Center would make a substantial difference in the experience of students with disabilities at Mizzou. Such a center would provide the kind of environment so important to many students with disabilities: reduced distraction, separate space, adaptive equipment, privacy, and consistency. Space has been identified – right across the street from the Disability Center! All we need is the funding to make it happen. Our goal is to have the funding in place to begin renovation when the space becomes available in 2019.
This fund has been established to support disability awareness programming and activities, such as Celebrate Ability Week and related events throughout the year, our Faculty Advisory Group, as well as building an education library and resources for use by students and others.
Established in 2011, this fund is dedicated to providing scholarships to incoming freshmen with disabilities. The fund was established as a gift from the estate of Wanda J. Meek in memory of her son, Kevin Meek, who obtained his bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Missouri in 1981.
Gifts to the Meek Scholarship Fund will build the endowment to expand the number of scholarships available.
